November 19, 2019 City Council Special Meeting Minutes
6:30 P.M.
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of International Falls, Minnesota, was held in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building on Monday, the 19th day of November 2019, at the hour of 6:35 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Councilors Buller, Ditsch, Krause, Nelson and Mayor Droba.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None.
CONSIDER BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS DECISION ON HEIGHT VARIANCE APPLICATION FOR I FALLS GROUP, LLC, TO CONSTRUCT A BEST WESTERN PLUS HOTEL |
Mayor Droba introduced the agenda item.
MOTION by Councilor Buller to affirm the decision of the Board of Zoning Appeals approving the variance to allow a Best Western Plus Hotel with a building height of 55 ft. feet versus the ordinance maximum of 35 ft. in the C-2B zoning district. Motion seconded by Councilor Ditsch. Mayor Droba complimented the Board of Zoning Appeals for their action and the many public comments received at the public hearing in support of the project. On behalf of the Council and community, Mayor Droba reiterated his appreciation to have the developer invest significant funds to build a high-quality hotel facility. The 81 room hotel will meet the local and tourism lodging needs within the City of International Falls. The Council expressed their support for the project by scheduling a special meeting to consider the application and encourage the construction start for this ambitious project. Motion carried unanimously. |
